Charles Leadbetter - We Think

Today we looked at Charles Leadbetter and specifically his book "We Think"
"More people than ever can pariticpate in culture, contributing their ideas, views, information.
The web allows them not just to publish but to share and connect, to collaborate and when the conditions are right, to create, together, at scale.
That is why the web is a platform for mass creativity and innovation.
We Think published in March 2008 is an exploration of what that will mean for our culture, the way we work, government, science and business."

A Three Minute Film About Culture In Liverpool

IMG_1332
In todays exam we used Edward De Bono's Lateral thinking tool concept extraction (which I have blogged about at an earlier date.) The main topic was to create idea's based around a three minute film about culture in Liverpool.  My final three idea's where "More to music than the Beatles", "The rivalry between Liverpool and Everton" and " The Reason's for Liverpool's Diversity ".

Philip W. Garrett

Today after class I decided to go round liverpool and take a few pictures to start off my idea's for my new project. When I stumbled upon a street artist called Philip W. Garrett. As I introduced myself, explained what course I'm doing and expressed how fascinated I was with his work, the idea of using stop motion to show how he creates his artwork came to me and he was more than happy for me to try it.

Below shows a link to his website and some Images I took while speaking to Philip.

Editing Workshop

Today I used the editing software Avid for the first time, I found it pretty easy as I've used Final Cut Pro numerous times and the software is very similar.

Camera Workshop

Today I used the Camera's I will be using throughout my time in uni, the Sony Z1's. I found the camera pretty simple to use and made me very excited about using them in the future. I also found the camera similar to other camera's I've used in both college and throughout my own filming.

Edward De Bono/Concept Extraction

Today we looked at Edward De Bono's lateral thinking tool concept extraction. The task I was initially given was to write down anything I could think for designing my own learning space. Initially between me and my partner in the task we could think of 14 ideas and concepts but by the time we had used concept extraction we came up with over 50 ideas and concepts.  I was amazed and shocked that we came up with so many more as initially I was sceptical about the process but in the end found it very useful.

Short Film Group

The task we were given today was to begin idea's for a short film based around "people on the move" with the brief of "Create a 'story' that should be a sequence of a character(s) moving location to another (total running time 1.30 - 2.0 minutes approximately). Make sure the story has a strong narrative running through it. Consider how your story will be interpreted visually. Recce all locations and plan your shoot accordingly, think about additional close-ups and illustrative shots. Draw up a preliminary storyboard." After being paired up in a group with four other people in my class we spent the first half an hour sketching out different mind maps and generally brainstorming different idea's.

After initially deciding we wanted to do a film based around "a day in the life of a homeless person" when we came back to the idea a week later we decided as group we wasn't happy with this idea and went 'back to the drawing board'.  Yet again we brainstormed idea's until we settled on the idea of making a comedy based on a students journey to university but with a twist.

We decided to make a facebook group for the five of us to share idea's about the film and filming dates. (shown below)
